★★★★★

ATM Cave was the most memorable experience of our whole trip. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. Pickup was on time and the group was small enough to feel personal.

Hol Chan snorkel exceeded expectations. We saw rays, nurse sharks, and a turtle. Crew was professional and the boat had shade for the ride out.

Booking via BookBelizeTours was so easy. Free cancellation gave us flexibility when our flight got pushed back a day.

Cave tubing was perfect for our family with two kids under 10. Great half day. Bring sunscreen for the river float at the end.

Good to know

Belize tour questions, answered

What is Belize known for?
Belize is best known for the second-largest barrier reef in the world (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Great Blue Hole, ancient Mayan ruins (Xunantunich, Caracol, Lamanai), the ATM Cave, and as the only English-speaking country in Central America. The reef and the inland Mayan sites are the two anchors of the country's tourism.
How many days do you need in Belize?
A 5 to 7 day trip is the most common length and a good fit for first-time visitors. That's enough to spend time on one of the cayes and base inland in San Ignacio for at least a couple of nights, with time for the major tours. A 4-day trip is the minimum to see anything meaningful, and 10+ days starts to feel long unless you're combining Belize with Guatemala or Mexico.
What is the best month to visit Belize?
February and March are the most popular months: dry, warm, and reliable weather. May is the best value month with similar weather but lower prices. June through August is rainy season but functional, with bonuses like whale shark season (March to June) and better dive visibility. Avoid September and October if you can: peak hurricane risk and some operators close.
Is Belize safe to visit?
For tourists visiting the cayes, San Ignacio, Placencia, Hopkins, and the standard tour destinations, Belize is generally safe. Crime exists and is concentrated in specific neighborhoods of Belize City that tourists have no reason to enter. The U.S. State Department travel advisory is the most accurate source for current conditions. Solo travelers, families, and older visitors do Belize regularly without issues.
Where should I stay in Belize?
The standard pattern is one beach base plus one inland base. Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) for the most developed island experience, Caye Caulker for budget and slower pace, Placencia for a quieter beach feel. Pair with San Ignacio for jungle, ruins, and caves. Hopkins works if you want both beach and jungle in one base.
Is Belize expensive?
Belize is more expensive than most Central American countries but less expensive than the Caribbean islands. A mid-range traveler can plan on $100 to $200 per person per day on the cayes, less inland. Tours add $80 to $150 per person on tour days. US dollars are accepted everywhere.
